| Summary, etc. | L’histoire des structures économiques et sociales de ghettos juifs d’Italie reste assez mal connue, en particulier pour le xviie siècle. La ségrégation sociale et spatiale des juifs s’accompagne d’un certain nombre de restrictions de nature économique : il s’agit ici d’en saisir la variété et les modalités d’application dans différentes régions de la péninsule italienne. Cet article se propose ainsi d’étudier la manière dont les juifs ont pu contourner ou résister à certaines de ces interdictions en négociant leurs droits auprès des autorités locales ou centrales, et de mesurer les conséquences concrètes de la ghettoïsation sur la vie économique et sociale des communautés juives en Italie. La stratification sociale des ghettos est ensuite comparée à des formes a priori plus tolérantes d’accueil de certaines populations juives non ghettoïsées, comme ce fut le cas par exemple à Pise et dans le port toscan de Livourne. La présence juive en Toscane est enfin étudiée à travers les privilèges octroyés par les grands-ducs aux entrepreneurs juifs, sépharades et italiens, du xviie siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | A ghetto economy? Jewish economic activities and actors in Italy during the seventeenth century* The history of the economic and social structures of the Jewish ghettos in Italy is still poorly known, especially with regards to the 17th century. The social and spatial segregation of the Jews went hand in hand with several restrictions in the economic sphere. This article aims to capture their varieties and modes of application in different regions of the Italian peninsula. It analyses how the Jews were able to get around or resist certain prohibitions by negotiating their rights with local or central authorities. It tries to measure the concrete impact ghettoization had on the economic and social life of different Jewish communities in Italy. The social stratification of the ghettos is compared with a priori more tolerant forms of interreligious coexistence, such as life without ghettos in the Tuscan cities of Pisa and Livorno. The Jewish presence in Tuscany is finally assessed through an in-depth study of the privileges granted by the Grand Dukes to 17th century Sephardic and Italian Jewish entrepreneurs. |
