| Summary, etc. | One of the most curious and neglected aspects of Amelot de La Houssaye’s work lies in its manuscript traces. Two examples already described by Soll and eight new ones are studied in the article. About the manuscript copy of Amelot’s translation of Sarpi, a unique case, we claim that it is a later version of the printed text, amended by the translator to remove traces of libertinage. In the other cases, we are dealing with autograph apostilles or glosses associated with printed or manuscript texts by various authors. Among the earliest, those that appear on the copy of Tacitus owned by Amelot bring together what he saw as a treasure trove of political wisdom with fragments of various authors picked up in the course of his reading. We find traces of these connections throughout his works and his translations of modern authors: Sarpi, Machiavelli, Gracián, Cardinal d’Ossat and La Rochefoucauld. The handwritten glosses on a print by La Rochefoucauld make it possible to rectify editorial manipulations and errors in the posthumous print in which they were collected; those on a copy of Les Caractères provide an unknown and very early key. Those we found on a copy of one of the first editions of L’homme de cour tell us how this work, one of Amelot’s greatest successes, was reworked several times over the four years of its publication. On the whole these micro-studies are intended to contribute to our knowledge of Amelot’s working method, an essential part of his thought. |

| Summary, etc. | Un des aspects les plus curieux et les plus négligés de l’activité d’Amelot de La Houssaye tient à ses traces manuscrites. Dix exemples, deux déjà décrits par Soll, et huit nouveaux, sont étudiés dans cet article. La copie manuscrite de la traduction de Sarpi par Amelot constitue un cas à part. D’après notre hypothèse, il s’agit d’une version postérieure à l’imprimé, amendée par le traducteur pour gommer toutes traces de libertinage. Pour le reste, nous sommes en présence d’apostilles associées à des textes imprimés ou manuscrits de divers auteurs. Parmi les plus anciennes, celles qui figurent sur l’exemplaire personnel du Tacite d’Amelot font dialoguer ce qui était à ses yeux un trésor de sagesse politique avec des extraits de divers auteurs glanés au cours de diverses lectures. Les gloses manuscrites sur un imprimé de La Rochefoucauld permettent de rectifier les manipulations éditoriales et les erreurs de l’imprimé posthume où elles furent recueillies. Celles qui figurent sur un exemplaire des Caractères livrent une clef inédite, méconnue des éditeurs de La Bruyère. Celles que nous avons trouvées sur un exemplaire de l’une des premières éditions de L’Homme de cour renseignent sur la manière dont cet ouvrage, l’un des plus grands succès d’Amelot, a été remanié à plusieurs reprises lors des quatre années qui suivirent sa publication. L’ensemble de ces micro-études met à jour un pan capital du travail d’Amelot et entend constituer un apport à la connaissance de la méthode de travail de l’auteur, partie essentielle de sa pensée. |
