| Summary, etc. | L’article examinera les développements de la législation italienne sur la protection des animaux, en les reliant à l’augmentation progressive de la sensibilisation du public à la souffrance animale et à la consolidation des mouvements et groupes de défense des animaux. À partir de la première loi anti-cruauté (1890), l’intense débat qui a accompagné la promulgation de la loi de 1913, la législation fasciste et les dispositions d’après-guerre seront analysés. Le propos se concentrera ensuite sur le tournant que le mouvement des droits des animaux, en Italie comme ailleurs, a connu à partir des années 1970-1980, culminant dans la naissance de nouveaux groupes de défense des animaux et anti-vivisection, et dans la riche législation des années 1990-2000. |

| Summary, etc. | The essay analyzes the developments in Italian animal welfare legislation, linking them to the emergence of a growing sensitivity towards animal suffering and the consolidation of pro-animal societies and movements. Beginning with the first anticruelty law (1890), will be analyzed the great debate that accompanied the promulgation of the 1913 law, fascist legislation and post-war provisions. The essay also focuses on the turning point that the pro-animal movement, in Italy as elsewhere, experienced from the 1970s to 1980s, culminating in the birth of new animal rights and antivivisection groups, and in the wealthy legislation of the years 1990-2000. |
