| Summary, etc. | L’émergence d’un outil diplomatique : les services culturels français de New York (1944-1963)Après 1944, les objectifs de la politique culturelle de la France n’étaient pas seulement de propager sa culture à l’étranger, mais de servir l’image de la France à l’étranger, en particulier aux États-Unis où une amitié était indispensable pour sa reconstruction et pour sa sécurité. Les dommages causés par la Seconde Guerre mondiale ne sont pas seulement matériels, la défaite, l’occupation et la collaboration ont profondément altéré son prestige à l’étranger. Dans sa restauration, les relations culturelles jouent un rôle décisif pour créer une opinion de nouveau favorable à la France dans la population américaine, qui permet alors au gouvernement américain de contribuer à la reconstruction de la France. |
