| Summary, etc. | La France et la question de Jérusalem (3 avril 1949 - 7 juin 1967).La guerre qui embrase la Palestine en 1948 entraîne la division de Jérusalem entre Israéliens et Transjordaniens. Cette situation dure jusqu’à la guerre des Six Jours de 1967. Seul l’accord d’armistice signé entre les deux États en 1949 régit en droit le statut de la ville pendant toute cette période. Cherchant une solution définitive, l’ONU propose l’application des résolutions de l’Assemblée générale qui prônent l’internationalisation de Jérusalem. La France, qui possède des intérêts historiques et culturels dans la Ville sainte, soutiendra constamment par sa diplomatie cette position, qui s’essouffle au fil des années et ne connaît un renouveau qu’avec la réunification de la Ville sainte par Israël en 1967. |

| Summary, etc. | La France et la question de Jérusalem, 3 avril 1949 - 7 juin 1967The 1948 War in Palestine lead to the division of Jerusalem between Israelis and Transjordanians until the 1967 Six Days War. During this period, the city’s legal status was solely defined by the terms of the armistice signed between the two states in 1949. Willing to put an end to this situation, the UNO suggested that the General Assembly resolutions, extolling the internationalization of Jerusalem, be applied. France, which had historical and cultural interests in the Holy City, constantly focused its diplomacy on same goal. This French diplomatic position however declined progressively and was only adopted again on the reunification of the Holy City by Israel in 1967. |
