| Summary, etc. | L’Allemagne impériale entre “ place au soleil ” et “ place à part ”C’est avec ambivalence et non sans brutalité que l’Allemagne de Guillaume II a cherché sa place dans le système de relations internationales de l’ère coloniale, a participé au développement de réseaux économiques mondiaux, a perçu et intégré ces phénomènes dans sa définition, son image de soi. Alors très récemment unifiée en un État fédéral, l’Allemagne impériale a connu une expansion économique fulgurante, reposant fortement sur l’ouverture sur le monde. Elle participa activement à la mondialisation comprise comme développement des réseaux d’échanges transnationaux, tout en adoptant un discours d’exclu revendiquant sa « place au soleil ». Un effet de la mondialisation fut l’affirmation d’une spécificité nationale allemande fondée sur le rejet des valeurs de la civilisation occidentale. |

| Summary, etc. | L’Allemagne impériale entre “ place au soleil ” et “ place à part ”During the colonial era, it was with ambivalence and not without brutality that the Germany of William II established its place in the international system, helping to develop world economic markets and later internalizing these events into its national self-image. Only recently unified into a federal State, the German Empire enjoyed exponential economic growth, based mostly on the development of global markets. Indeed, Germany has not only been an active participant in globalization – that is, the development of transnational exchange mechanisms – but has also insisted on its own exclusion from that system and demanded « a place in the sun ». The process of globalization thus seems to have led Germany to affirm its uniqueness as a nation and reject the values of so-called « Western » civilization. |
