| Summary, etc. | RésuméDans la seconde moitié du xixe siècle le mobilier liturgique est une préoccupation constante, dans une période de restauration du patrimoine religieux à l’abandon et de constructions de nouvelles églises. Bernard Jabouin (1810-1889) marbrier sculpteur crée une fabrique de mobilier religieux à Bordeaux dont l’activité dépasse largement le cadre local. Passionné d’archéologie, cet artiste cherche à retrouver l’esprit et les formes du Moyen Âge et produit de très nombreuses œuvres dans le style néo-gothique. Ces dernières, expressions sincères de la foi chrétienne connaissent un réel succès dans un contexte de renouveau religieux. |

| Summary, etc. | During the second half of the 19 th century, religious furniture was a constant preoccupation, in a period of renovation of neglected religious patrimony and construction of new churches. Bernard Jabouin (1810-1889), marble mason and sculptor, founded a factory of religious furniture in Bordeaux, the activity of which largely outgrew the local market. An enthusiast of archaeology, this artist tried to find the spirit and the forms of the Middle-Ages and produced a large number of works in the neo-gothic style. These works, sincere expressions of the Christian faith, met with a real success in a context of religious revival. |
