| Summary, etc. | RésuméDans le cadre du vaste mouvement de renaissance identitaire qui s’épanouit en Catalogne à la fin du xixe siècle, des réalisations architecturales revendiquant modernité et spécificité redessinent le paysage urbain barcelonais. Les récits des voyageurs français en Espagne, dans leur quête de pittoresque et de traditions, témoignent alors, malgré le désir de reconnaissance catalan, d’une indifférence pesante à l’égard d’une ville jugée trop industrielle, trop moderne, trop « française ». Les nouvelles réalisations architecturales sont ignorées, voire évitées et quelques exceptions donnent à lire à la fois la persistance de ces pesanteurs et la diversité des voyageurs. Une évolution se fait néanmoins sentir. À partir des années 1920, on assiste dans cette littérature de voyage à l’élaboration d’une reconnaissance marquée par la sélection de certains bâtiments jugés désormais « à voir » et par la construction d’un discours officiel. Quelques personnalités, au début des années 1930, confirment, par des réappropriations singulières, cette institutionnalisation. Il s’agit à la fois ici de saisir un processus de construction de l’attrait touristique, d’approcher la question des pratiques et des représentations des voyageurs et de s’interroger sur le lien avec une évolution plus générale de la société française à la période étudiée. |

| Summary, etc. | Within the scope of the vast movement of identity revival that took place in Catalonia at the end of the 19th century, architectural achievements asserting modernity and specificity change Barcelona’s urban landscape. Accounts by French travellers in Spain, in search of picturesque and traditions, testify, in spite of the Catalans’ desire for recognition, of a heavy indifference towards a city considered too industrial, too modern, too “French”. The new architectural works are ignored, even avoided and a few exceptions show both the persistence of this heaviness and the diversity of the travellers. However, an evolution is felt. Since the 1920’s, this travel literature has elaborated a marked recognition, by selecting certain buildings as now “worthy of seeing” and by the construction of an official discourse. In the early 1930’s, a few personalities confirm this institutionalisation, through singular reappropriations. The issue here, is to understand a process of creating tourist attraction, to approach the question of travellers’ practices and representations and to wonder about the relation with a more general evolution of the French society at that time. |
