| Summary, etc. | RésuméLe débat historiographique en cours en Italie, depuis au moins quinze ans, a investi non seulement les structures du système politique (le Parlement et les partis, l’opinion publique et les médias), mais aussi la culture des historiens de l’époque contemporaine. On assiste à une réinvention des compétences et de la sensibilité, également imposée par l’extension des sources à utiliser. Dans l’histoire politique de l’Italie républicaine, apparaissent des courants interprétatifs interdisciplinaires permettant de faire de plus en plus émerger de nouvelles questions sur les fondements de l’identité nationale, sur les caractères et les transformations de la démocratie républicaine. Les interprétations renouvelées, entre un révisionnisme déclaré et un retour à la « longue » histoire nationale, ont présenté un fort intérêt pour la crise des institutions républicaines, la décadence des partis traditionnels et la délégitimation de la classe politique, rivalisant pour faire de l’Italie non tant une « anomalie » européenne qu’un « laboratoire » de la mutation vers les démocraties d’opinion actuelles. |

| Summary, etc. | The historiographic debate that has been going on in Italy for at least fifteen years has encroached upon not only the structures of the political system (Parliament and the parties, public opinion and the media), but also the culture of contemporary historians. We attend a reinvention of skills and sensitivity, also required by the increase of available sources. In the political history of Republican Italy, interdisciplinary currents have appeared enabling new questions on the foundations of national identity and the characteristics and transformations of republican democracy to come to the fore. Renewed interpretations, between a declared revisionism and a return to the “long” national history, show a strong interest in the crisis of republican institutions, the decadence of traditional parties and the delegitimization of politicians vying for making Italy not a European anomaly but a “laboratory” of mutation towards present day public opinion democracies. |
