Summary, etc. This study’s objective was to adapt Carroll and Steward’s (1984) interview on young children’s understanding of their own emotions and to examine its psychometric properties. The interview was conducted with 50 children, half of whom presented aggressive behavior and the other half being a matched control group. The results show that the interview has good psychometric properties, that is, good interrater reliability and satisfying internal consistency. In addition, links between this interview and the understanding of others’ emotions suggest good discriminant validity. Construct validity has been tested by examining the developmental sequence of understanding one’s own emotions and with its links to aggressiveness and emotional regulation. The results also provide information on the development of the understanding of four basic emotions and on the way 4- and 5-year-olds represent emotions.
