Summary, etc. This study examines the long-term effects of kindergarten learning and educational practices at home within the family on French and math skills at the end of second grade. Our study was based on a cohort of 129 children, who were evaluated on two occasions. During the kindergarten year of pre-school, evaluation tests were administered to students in seven classes. Two years later, the same children were evaluated collectively in French and math. In addition, parents were asked to complete questionnaires assessing certain aspects of their educational practices. We used multiple regression models to evaluate the effects of the study variables on academic performance in second grade. The results revealed strong links between certain skills learned at kindergarten (e.g., auditory discrimination, spatial organization, counting) and French and math skills in second grade. We also found links between parental practices that familiarize children with writing functions and academic achievement.
