| Summary, etc. | Between the early nineteenth century and the 1960s, perceptions and customs of wildland fires changed dramatically in Provence, as did ways of preventing them. Forest fires were henceforth studied and inventoried, giving rise to a new public policy. In the nineteenth century, the aim was to protect the economic capital of the Maures and Esterel regions. In the twentieth century, it was a question of preserving the landscape and ecosystem of the Mediterranean forest, considered degraded. Based on research of the judicial, communal and forestry archives of the Var region, as well as on various agricultural, forestry and scholarly publications, this historical study is also an opportunity to analyse the construction of the narrative surrounding forest, agricultural and pastoral res. |

| Summary, etc. | Entre le début du XIXe siècle et les années 1960, les perceptions, les usages et la prévention des feux de végétation se transforment profondément en Provence. Désormais, les incendies de forêts sont étudiés, inventoriés et donnent lieu à une nouvelle politique publique. Au XIXe siècle, il s’agit de protéger le capital économique des Maures et de l’Esterel. Au XIXe siècle, il s’agit de sauvegarder le paysage et l’écosystème de la forêt méditerranéenne vus comme dégradés.
