| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The abolition of psychiatric nursing studies in 1992 resulted in the disappearance of a body of knowledge that had been taught at IFSI. The exponential increase in restraint and isolation is one of its sources. Paramedics would rely on a detailed knowledge of the history of the psychiatric discipline, using the approach of the body as subject rather than the body as an object of care; of a body that was not an end in itself. Care of the body was also an approach, a way of accessing the psyche that these paramedics knew how to mobilize via small acts of what is known as comfort care (washing and toileting, blood pressure, etc). Multi-skilled nurses are now delegating these small tasks, often described as “dirty jobs,” to assistant nurses. Patients whose body-subject insists a little too much are tied up and isolated. |

| Summary, etc. |
