| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) results from a complex interplay between cardiac and renal dysfunction, where the impairment of one organ exacerbates the failure of the other. Early identification is essential for optimised management. In small animals, CRS may be suspected when signs of renal dysfunction (azotaemia, decreased glomerular filtration) occur in the context of heart disease or cardiomyopathy, or conversely, when cardiac remodelling or decompensation emerges in a patient with chronic kidney disease. Hypoperfusion, activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), systemic congestion, and hypertension are central mechanisms contributing to this vicious cycle. A multifactorial evaluation integrating clinical, henodynamic and biochimical parameters, and also cardiac and abdominal ultrasonography is key to detecting early CRS and initiating adapted therapeutic strategies. |
