520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) in non-domestic big cats under human care refers to the pathological interaction between cardiac and renal dysfunction, in which the failure of one organ worsens that of the other. Although poorly documented scientifically, it may be more common than estimated, particularly in older lions and tigers. Management is challenging due to limited access to diagnostic tests, the need for chemical immobilisation, and the constraints associated with daily treatment administration. This article provides a synthesis of available knowledge and adapted recommendations, drawing from feline, human, and zoological medicine, for the combined management of systemic hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and cardiomyopathies in this population. The therapeutic approach is based on careful selection of anaesthetic agents, blood pressure control (amlodipine as first-line), judicious use of ACE inhibitors and diuretics, and close monitoring of cardiac and renal function. The use of medical training and multidisciplinary collaboration (ZIMS, EAZA, EEP) are essential to optimise quality of life and reduce morbidity in these complex patients.
