| Summary, etc. | L’évolution avant et durant leur cure à La Preste de 534 cas d’infection urinaire récidivante a été étudiée systématiquement. Ce travail met en évidence une rupture évolutive entre ces deux périodes pourtant en continuité. Le nombre de crises urinaires baisse nettement durant la première cure, quelle que soit la forme clinique de l’infection: 78 % en cas de cystite, 83 % lors de pyélonéphrites, 64 % pour les prostatites. Ce phénomène se reproduit lors de chaque cure suivante pour les curistes souffrant de cystite, mais non en cas de prostatites ou de pyélonéphrites, peut-être en raison d’un effectif de curistes insuffisant. L’examen des résultats d’analyses cytobactériologiques urinaires ou des contrôles par bandelettes confirme cette diminution, avec prudence, les données recueillies étant imparfaites. Cependant l’incontestable diminution des crises urinaires, et la diminution des infections urinaires qui s’ensuit, obligent à conclure à un effet désinfectant propre de l’eau thermale. La seule explication possible d’un tel effet réside dans l’existence d’une interaction entre cette eau thermale et le processus d’adhérence bactéries-urothélium, responsable premier des infections sur des systèmes urinaires normaux. |

| Summary, etc. | 534 patients with recurrent urinary tract infections and using La Preste thermal water were studied. The follow-up period for each patient included the year before coming to La Preste and the period of crenotherapy itself. The study showed a deep decrease of urinary crisis during crenotherapy as compared to the year before : 78 % for cystitis, 83 % for pyelonephritis, 64 % for prostatitis. In the cases of cystitis, this decrease occured at each following new treatment in La Preste. This was not true for prostatitis or pyelonephritis, probably due to insufficient number of patients. Urine bacteriological analysis and urine test strips also showed a decrease of infections during the crenotherapy period for pyelonephritis or cystitis prone women. Bacteriologic data must however be considered with care because urine controls were not available for each crisis. However crisis decrease is unquestionable, and implies infection decrease. Thus disinfection by this thermal water was an obvious conclusion. One explanation of this disinfection might be the influence of La Preste water on the bacteria-urothelium adherence, which is a previously described property of this water. |
