The Mysticism of Catherine of SiennaConsidered from a metaphysical point of view and in the perspective of salvation, the concept of desire in Catherine of Sienna is the basis of a real spiritual pedagogy. Within desire, the privileged meeting place between the creature and her God, the saint discovers God at once present within her and nevertheless beyond her. This article tries to show that the infinite desire which dwells within human beings is (in Catherine’s teaching) a response to the infinite desire of the Trinitarian God, manifested by Christ in his passion. |
