| Summary, etc. | Résumé Réciprocité, don et contre-don sont des concepts qui ont été utilisés par les médiévistes depuis plusieurs dizaines d’années. Dans cet article, on étudie les relations sociales d’un monastère cistercien de la Galice à travers ses échanges avec les communautés paysannes des environs et les groupes dominants locaux aux xii e et xiii e siècles. Les auteurs démontrent que la réciprocité peut être un instrument d’analyse valable pour expliquer comment se définissent de nouvelles positions sociales, s’établissent les hiérarchies et se produisent mobilité et différenciation sociales, au moment où s’organisent les systèmes de pouvoir. |

| Summary, etc. | Reciprocity, gift and counter gift are concepts which have been widely used by medievalists in the last decades. This article analyses the social relations of a Cistercian monastery in Galicia through its exchanges with the peasant communities of its hinterland and the local dominant groups in the 12th and 13th centuries. The authors argue that reciprocity can be a valid means of analysis for the explanation of how new social positions are defined, how hierarchies are established and how social movility and differentiation arise when systems of power are organized. |
