| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’actuel département de la Lozère conserve en archives une centaine de compoix du Gévaudan, beaucoup moins utilisés par les chercheurs languedociens que ceux du bas pays. La lecture des rapports d’expertise accompagnant ces cadastres anciens montre leur relative unité de fond et de forme à la fin du xviiie siècle, qui est en réalité le fruit d’un long processus d’évolution depuis la fin du xve siècle. Ces rapports montrent la diversité des réponses recherchées par les communautés pour tendre à une certaine équité de l’impôt et par conséquent, les choix pris par les contribuables, les autorités locales et les agents cadastraux pour élaborer leur nouveau compoix. |

| Summary, etc. | Today, about one hundred Gévaudan’s « compoix » are surviving in the Lozère departmental archives; they have been much less studied by researchers on Languedoc than those of more Southern areas. By reading the appraisal reports appended to these cadastres, one can show that at the end of the 18th century, they had become structurally and formally similar, a unity born from a long development process started at the end of the 15th century. These reports display the diversity of answers sought by the communities in order to reach relative equity in distributing the tax burden, and the solutions correspondingly elaborated by taxpayers, local authorities and cadastral experts when creating their new « compoix ». |
