| Summary, etc. | Cet article analyse la pénétration commerciale chinoise dans la Méditerranée non européenne et comment elle affecte la présence économique de l’Union Européenne. En procédant à une analyse historique économique et géopolitique des pays de la région, il met en évidence leur hétérogénéité. Il montre en quoi la présence économique chinoise pourrait notamment s’expliquer par le positionnement géopolitique des différents pays de la région et du degré d’ouverture commerciale auprès des firmes européennes occidentales qui en a résulté depuis leur indépendance. Il analyse ensuite les sources de tension entre la Chine et l’Union européenne liée à l’expansion économique chinoise dans cette région. |

| Summary, etc. | This article analyzes the Chinese commercial penetration in the non-European Mediterranean region and its impact on the EU hegemonic economic position in these countries. By adopting a long term approach relying on economic history and geopolitics, this contribution highlights the heterogeneity of this region and to what extent the Chinese economic presence in these countries could be explained by their respective geopolitical situation after their independence as this has determined in large part their degree of opening to Western European economic presence. The article then looks into the tensions between China and the EU resulting from the rising Chinese commercial presence in the region. |
