| Summary, etc. | La compréhension du nombre nécessite la compréhension catégorielle de ce qu’est l’unité. Dans toute situation réelle, les opérations mathématiques s’appliquent à des ensembles d’unités qui sont considérées comme interchangeables : chacune des unités qui s’assemblent ou se différencient selon leur catégorie doit être considérée comme équivalente aux autres alors qu’elles sont différentes.S’appuyant sur la théorie de la catégorisation, l’objectif de l’article est de montrer comment obtenir auprès des élèves cette abstraction que constituent l’Unité et ses caractéristiques. Une abstraction qui, si elle n’est pas découverte comme telle, n’est pas conceptualisée, ce qui engendre des difficultés de compréhension et de résolution des opérations arithmétiques sur des ensembles d’unités (les opérandes) qui sont à considérer comme équivalentes ou différentes selon la nature sémantique de l’opération (l’opérateur à appliquer aux opérandes). |

In any real situation, mathematical operations apply to sets of units that are considered interchangeable : each of the units that are assembled or differentiated according to their category must be considered equivalent to the others even though they are different.Based on the theory of categorization, the objective of this article is to show how to obtain from students this abstraction that constitutes the Unit and its characteristics. An abstraction that, if not discovered as such, is not conceptualized, which generates difficulties in understanding and solving arithmetic operations on sets of units (the operands) that must be considered equivalent or different depending on the semantic nature of the operation (the operator to be applied to the operands). |
