Pourtant, elle repose sur un certain nombre d’équivoques qui tiennent, entre autres, à la dominance du parti social-démocrate et à l’idée que les prestations sociales sont fondées sur le principe d’universalité. Un retour sur l’histoire et sur la philosophie de l’État social, dans ses rapports avec la social-démocratie, permet d’apporter des correctifs importants à ce tableau idyllique. |

| Summary, etc. | The popular success of the the Swedish model rhetoric has partly rested upon a series of misconceptions and ambiguities, due to the long incumbency of the social democratic party and to an uncritical emphasis on universality as the key principle of social policies. Casting a renewed look at the history and actual philosophy of the welfare state, in relationship to the role of social democracy, may help correct a number of conventional wisdoms about the Swedish case. |
