520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The author presents extracts of the psychoanalytical treatments of two children with autism, to illustrate how the emergence of representations related to separation consciousness, perceived as the encounter of a persecutory third object, creates existential anxieties and threatens the very formation of the « skin-containment ». The author also suggests that a splitting mechanism operates in autism, which separates “bodily level representation” from “emotional thought”. The splitting mechanism, which is intended to suppress any feeling rising from the depressive depression, is related by the child to the representation of a combined parental couple, that deprives the child of any sense of identity. The reduction of this splitting depends, in the course of the treatment, on sensory and emotional integration based on the binocular quality of the analyst’s psychic attention in the transference, a third object function, which allows the formation of a triangular space, in order to consolidate the introjection of the “skin-containment function”.
