| Summary, etc. | Winnicott décrivait le père comme le premier objet total reconnu par l’enfant, un objet « intégré », transmis par le psychisme de la mère et nécessaire à la fois à la capacité de survivre de l’objet maternel et à l’intégration du self de l’enfant. L’auteur illustre cette fonction paternelle par le récit d’une analyse d’adulte empreinte de terreur, dont l’issue favorable n’a été possible que grâce à la fonction tierce de superviseurs. |

| Summary, etc. | In Winnicott’s very late work he proposed that, in a “favorable case,” the father could be felt as a whole object in the newborn and he suggested naming this the “integrate”. In this essay the author extends this concept and proposes a “paternal integrate” which is psychically transmitted via the mind of the mother. Paralleling this theory with the analyzing situation the author illustrates how the “third” in the analyst’s mind, developed during analytic training, will activate the necessary paternal functioning concerning the analyst’s technique. |
