| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | According to a survey in psychodynamics of work, realized in 2004 with a group of 12 employees in industrial farming, we propose links to understand the disinterest revealed by many employees and recently qualified people in agricultural sector for pig breeding. Interviewed employees testify on the lack of social acknowledgment and suffering in identity. Transformations of animal status in our society promoted by the problematics of « animal well-being » have some of the characteristics of this suffering. For employees, work is lived as an « upside down world », where pigs would be more important as workers. This inversion goes with a backward point of view and questionings about technical modernity. To deal against constraints of peasant work, represented by their childhood memories and related to the reduction of negative impairments on their health, employees defend technical and moral « cleanness » of industrial systems. The survey shows that individual profile of these employees corresponds to a very particular profile characterized by : taste for performance, ability to work a lot, negative heritage for peasant work, desire of a powerfulness over animals. Between theoretical reification and incarnation in real work, this final point of view questions the paradoxical nature of breeding animal status and work relation with animals in industrial systems. |
