| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’article présente une analyse des connaissances sur le thème des violences conjugales après une séparation ou un divorce et de l’impact de ces violences sur la vie des femmes et des enfants. L’argumentation s’appuie sur une base de données internationale très riche qui montre la fréquence et la gravité de ces violences. Des recherches menées dans différents pays montrent aussi que ces violences restent peu visibles et que cette invisibilité est un obstacle majeur dans la protection des femmes et des enfants. Le texte analyse différents mécanismes d’occultation, comme le mythe des « fausses dénonciations » et discute de leur impact sur la perception sociale des violences conjugales post-séparation et sur la vie des victimes. |

| Summary, etc. | The life-experiences of women and children facing intimate-partner violence following separationWe analyse the research available on the issue of intimate-partner violence after separation or divorce, and its impact on the lives of women and children exposed to this phenomenon. The discussion is based on rich international data showing the high frequency and the gravity of this violence. Studies carried out in different countries suggest that very often such violence remains unreported. This lack of visibility represents the major obstacle for protecting women and children. We analyse some of the strategies adopted to retain this invisibility, such as the myth of “false reports” and discuss their impact on the social perception of intimate- partner violence following separation and on the lives of the victims. |
