520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Urban forms convey contrasting representations in which social and architectural models interfere. The city is a spatial form in which opposed social forces confront and mingle with each other. The analysis is embedded in the plurality of the daily life experiences. In Algiers, these multiple representations include the colonial heritage and public as well as private production of spatial forms (i.e. monuments, public places, commercial centres, recreation areas vs. mosques, one-family homes, tourist infrastructures, etc.). The ideological presuppositions of this architectural production give a concrete shape the image of the city and they play their part in the disputes for power control over the urban space. As an example, the rejection of monumental urban forms has a socio-political impact and an evident symbolic strength.
