| Summary, etc. | La procession est un lieu de communion et d’unité, dont la colère et la division sont exclues. Pourtant, la relation avec la colère est dialectique. La marche est d’abord un moyen d’apaisement. Les pouvoirs l’utilisent comme diversion, voie de retour à l’ordre, mais cela suppose une croyance et parfois une demande populaire, occasion pour sublimer les peurs et demander un secours. Loin d’être passifs, les milieux populaires y jouent un rôle. La procession peut aussi être cristallisation de la colère, par le contact, le contexte de tension économique, la dimension mémorielle. S’exprime alors un vocabulaire politique associant religion, rue, communauté. Dans ces contextes, elle devient elle-même l’un des déterminants de la qualification de populaire pour cette colère qui s’exprime. |

| Summary, etc. | The procession is a locus for communion and unity, leaving no place for division and anger. And yet there is a dialectical connexion with protest/anger. Marching is for a start a means to appeasement. Authorities use it as a diversion, a way to a return to order, but this presupposes a belief and sometimes a popular demand, an occasion to sublimate fears and to ask for help. Far from being passive, the popular milieux have their role to play here. The procession can also help to crystallize anger through a negotiation of physical contact, the context of economic tensions and elements of memory- generating a political lexicon associating religion, street and community. With such contexts in mind, procession becomes itself one of the main reasons for this anger to be designated as popular. |
