Les tempêtes font partie des extrêmes climatiques les plus importants en Europe du Nord-Ouest. La méthode de prévision de ces phénomènes climatiques est ici analysée et fait ressortir aussi bien les énormes progrès des dernières années que les incertitudes qui demeurent. La prévision a pour objectif de prévenir la population et de satisfaire ses exigences d’un risque maîtrisé. France et îles Britanniques constituent le cadre géographique de cette étude. |

| Summary, etc. | Dealing with heavy weather : forecast and warningsHeavy weather is an expression used in marine meteorology characterizing the impacts of wind storms on the sea. Wind storms are among the most significant weather extremes in north-western Europe. The forecast of such weather hazards is analyzed and points out the huge improvements over the past decades as well as the remaining uncertainties. Weather forecast aims to warn people and to meet their demand for an overcome risk. France and the British isles compose the geographical framework of this study. |
