This quest happens to be really hard for Mr Folantin who cares for nothing and has troubles digesting. The structure, the metaphorical style and the subtil humour make this novel a masterpiece. In fact, Huysmans’ main purpose is to puzzle and disconcert the reader. |

| Summary, etc. | À vau‑l’eau von Joris‑Karl Huysmans ist eigentlich eine simple Geschichte: Ein verarmter kleiner Beamter versucht im Paris des auslaufenden 19. Jahrhunderts in unterschiedlichen Restaurants seinen Appetit wieder zu finden. Die Suche erweist sich jedoch als schwierig, denn Monsieur Folantin hat keinerlei Appetit und eine schlechte Verdauung. Die Novelle entwickelt sich zu einem stilistischen Meisterwerk in dem es Huysmans gelingt, den Leser durch seine humorvolle und subtile Art des Schreibens zu verwirren. |
