Mais même si on reproche au joueur d’avoir favorisé les conditions de la défaite, il est aussitôt pardonné. Ce pardon est orchestré par le récit médiatique. Les journaux développent une rhétorique des circonstances atténuantes appuyée sur trois grands ressorts explicatifs : l’humanité, les origines et le génie de Zidane. Le récit de presse montre alors combien la sacralisation des héros sportifs symbolise le « refuge » que constitue de nos jours l’univers du sport. Dans un temps saisi par la crise existentielle du social et du politique, le sport (avec ses idoles) est l’un des derniers espaces permettant l’enthousiasme civique, le partage des émotions sociales et la sacralisation d’icônes laïques. |

In a period when society and politics are in existential crisis, sport and his idols constitute one of the few remaining spaces which allow the expression of civic enthusiasm civic values, the social sharing of emotion, and the worship of secular iconic figures. |

Este perdón fue orquestado por el discurso mediático. Los periódicos desarrollaron una retórica de las circunstancias atenuantes fundada sobre tres grandes resortes explicativos : la humanidad, las orígenes y el genio de Zidane. El relato de la prensa demuestra pues como la sacralización de los iconos deportistas simboliza el “refugio” que constituye hoy el mundo del deporte. En un tiempo caracterizado por la crisis existencial de lo social y de lo político, el deporte (con sus ídolos) es uno de los últimos espacios que permite el entusiasmo cívico, el reparto de las emociones sociales y la sacralización de iconos laicos. |

Das Ereignis lässt die öffentliche Meinung explodieren. Auch wenn man dem Spieler vorwirft, zur Niederlage beigetragen zu haben, wird ihm dennoch sofort vergeben. Dieses Vergeben wird durch die mediale Erzählung diktiert. Die Zeitungen entwickeln eine Rhetorik der mildernden Umstände, die sich auf drei Erklärungsgrundlagen stützen: die Menschlichkeit, die Herkunft und das Genie von Zidane. Die Erzählung der Presse zeigt also auf, wie sehr die Verehrung von Sportikonen einen „Zufluchtsort“, den das Sportuniversum heute darstellt, symbolisiert.
