| Summary, etc. | Une grande difficulté, et c’est vraiment le cas de le dire, est de savoir si, oui ou non, il existe un rapport, dans l’islam, entre la pratique d’une activité professionnelle et la foi religieuse vécue. Il est plus facile, dans l’état actuel des choses, de se décider pour l’absence d’un tel rapport, du moins dans sa signification rendue incontournable par les historiens et sociologues du protestantisme. On parle pourtant de plus en plus, depuis un moment, tantôt d’un « islam de marché », tantôt d’un « islam protestant », pour assurer que l’islam est, en fin de compte, capable de dynamisme économique. Cette affirmation est naturellement hors de doute. Mais elle ne répond pas à la question posée. Le présent article n’entend pas y répondre non plus. Il suggère seulement une piste, suivant laquelle l’idée d’une connexion entre la profession et la foi existe en Islam. Et pour tout dire, Max Weber lui-même l’avait pressentie. |

| Summary, etc. | Determining whether or not there is a relationship, in Islam, between the practice of a professional activity and the lived religious faith, is a really challenging task. As it stands, it is easier to conclude that such a relationship does not exist, at least as historians and sociologists of Protestantism have defined it. For some time now, however, we have been hearing more and more about “market Islam” and “Protestant Islam,” to ensure that Islam is ultimately capable of economic dynamism. This assertion is, of course, beyond doubt. But it does not answer the question posed. Nor is this the purpose of this article. It merely suggests that the idea of a connection between profession and faith exists in Islam. In fact, Max Weber himself foresaw it. |
