| Summary, etc. | La tonométrie est l’estimation de la pression intraoculaire (PIO) qui est un paramètre important dans le diagnostic et la gestion de certaines maladies oculaires chez le cheval comme le glaucome et l’uvéite. La mesure de la PIO est un examen complémentaire qui est généralement réalisé à la suite d’un examen ophtalmique complet, permettant de confronter les résultats de la tonométrie aux observations cliniques et orientant le praticien dans son diagnostic. Plusieurs facteurs endogènes et exogènes peuvent faire varier la PIO chez le cheval : la sédation, la réalisation ou non d’un bloc auriculopalpébral, la position de la tête par rapport à celle du cœur, le cycle nycthéméral et l’opérateur. Il est important de réaliser une tonométrie dans des conditions constantes et répétables, afin de diminuer l’incidence de ces facteurs sur les valeurs mesurées. La tonométrie indirecte est la méthode de mesure la plus courante et, parmi les instruments à disposition, les tonomètres par aplanissement et par rebond sont les plus facilement utilisables dans la pratique vétérinaire équine. Ils permettent l’obtention de résultats fiables et facilement interprétables. |

| Summary, etc. | Tonometry is the estimation of the intraocular pressure (IOP), which is a major parameter in the diagnosis and the management of ocular diseases like glaucoma and uveitis. IOP measurement is usually made after a complete ocular examination, which permits to associate the results with the lesions observed and helps the clinician to elaborate a diagnosis. Several endogenous and exogenous factors can have an influence on IOP measurement in horses : some sedative drugs, the use or not of an auriculopalpebral nerve block, head position, time of the day and the operator. It is mandatory to perform a tonometry always in the same conditions to minimise the influence of these parameters. Indirect tonometry is the most common method of measurement. Aplanation and rebound tonometers are the most convenient instruments to use in equine veterinary practice, and the results are trustable and reproducible. |
