| Summary, etc. | La règlementation européenne encadre strictement l’utilisation des médicaments vétérinaires, y compris en médecine équine. Lorsqu’aucune spécialité vétérinaire n’est disponible, les praticiens peuvent recourir à des médicaments humains, quelle que soit la filière, à condition qu’ils soient sur la liste des « substances essentielles » ou sur le tableau I des LMR pour les équidés destinés à la consommation. Pour ces équidés, un délai d’attente de 6 mois doit être respecté pour les substances essentielles. La liste des substances essentielles du règlement de 2013, devenue inadaptée, a été révisée par la Commission européenne. Le règlement d’exécution (UE) 2025/901, publié le 19 mai 2025, établit ainsi une nouvelle liste comprenant 75 substances. Cet article fait le point sur les médicaments ophtalmiques à usage humain : ajouts (moxifloxacine, ganciclovir, acétazolamide, etc.), modifications d’indication (aciclovir, ofloxacine, tropicamide, polymyxine B) et exclusions (dorzolamide, idoxuridine, latanoprost). Ces évolutions visent à améliorer la disponibilité thérapeutique, renforcer la pertinence clinique des prescriptions et assurer la sécurité sanitaire. Les vétérinaires doivent désormais adapter leurs choix thérapeutiques en ophtalmologie équine en tenant compte de cette nouvelle règlementation. |

| Summary, etc. | European regulations strictly govern the use of veterinary medicines, including in equine medicine. When no veterinary medicinal product is available, practitioners may resort to human medicines in any sector, provided that these medicines are included either on the list of “essential substances” or in Table I of MRLs for Equidae intended for human consumption. For such Equidae, a six-month withdrawal period must be observed for essential substances. The list of essential substances established in the 2013 regulation, which had become outdated, has been revised by the European Commission. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/901, published on 19 May 2025, introduces a new list comprising 75 substances. This article focuses on human ophthalmological medicines, highlighting additions (moxifloxacin, ganciclovir, acetazolamide, etc.), modifications of indications (aciclovir, ofloxacin, tropicamide, polymyxin B), and exclusions (dorzolamide, idoxuridine, latanoprost). These changes aim to improve therapeutic availability, enhance the clinical relevance of prescriptions, and ensure health safety. Veterinarians must now adapt their therapeutic choices in equine ophthalmology in light of this new regulation. |
