| Summary, etc. | Cet article revient sur le hirak de Jerada (2017-2018), un mouvement social dont les revendications contestent la situation de maldéveloppement et de domination économique dans laquelle se trouve une large partie de la jeunesse de cette ville moyenne de l’Oriental marocain. Le hirak de Jerada est devenu un mouvement mobilisateur pour toutes les générations et catégories sociales de la ville. Il est perçu comme un mouvement citoyen porté par les habitants au premier rang desquels les mineurs de charbon de la ville, des hommes jeunes travaillant dans l’informalité, et les risques pour leur santé. À travers une ethnographie des groupes mobilisés et notamment de ces jeunes au premier rang de la mobilisation, l’article met en évidence le rôle d’un groupe de leaders formés dans le syndicalisme étudiant. Cet article expose la façon dont le groupe de militants réinvestit des compétences militantes et des capitaux symboliques dans le mouvement, y compris des diplômes universitaires dévalorisés et l’expérience des luttes passées dont ils ont pu être partie prenante ou simplement témoins pour s’engager dans un mouvement de protestation qui remet en question l’ordre économique et politique local. |

| Summary, etc. | This article looks back at the Jerada hirak (2017–2018), a local social protest whose demands aimed at addressing the poor development and the economic domination experienced by a large proportion of young people in this medium-sized city in eastern Morocco. The Jerada hirak mobilized all generations and social groups throughout the city. It is perceived as a social protest led by the inhabitants, foremost among whom were the city’s coal miners, young men extracting in informal conditions and at high risk to their health the remaining coal left by a now-closed industrial mining company. Through an ethnography of the mobilized groups, particularly the young people at the forefront of the protest, the article highlights the role of a group of leaders raised in student unionism in Morocco. The article highlights how the group of activists reinvested their activist skills and symbolic capital in the movement, including devalued university degrees. Experiences of past struggles in which they may have been involved or simply witnessed were put to use in a protest movement that challenged the local economic and political order. |
