Summary, etc. The relationship between the individual and his/her environment goes through a process of recognition of familiar elements in unfamiliar places. Attention paid by migrants to places, and their search for indices of propinquity, requires to reconsider the decision-making process leading to migration. Migrants have some autonomy of choice. The tension between expatriation and “re-patriation” is manifest in the search for familiar places in new spaces. It highlights the relevance of the “voluntary migratio” type in migrants’ subjectivation process. It also stresses the importance of hospitality in the settlement process in a new city.
