| Summary, etc. | Le terme d’espèce invasive désigne une construction intellectuelle hybride et complexe, néanmoins réductrice, où convergent des mécanismes biologiques, des facteurs causaux historiques, et des représentations culturelles de la nature. Chaque espèce invasive, aussi libre et sauvage que dérangeante et peu contrôlable, bouscule à nos yeux un ordre implicite du vivant. Notre besoin de réguler l’extension spatiale trop impétueuse d’une espèce vivante, même lorsqu’elle ne nuit pas à notre bien-être, semble irrépressible. Pourtant, en dehors de situations radicales, comme dans les îles ou en présence de prédateurs invasifs, comment évaluer si une espèce invasive, qu’elle soit simplement accompagnatrice d’un changement, ou qu’elle en soit responsable, est « bon » ou « mauvais » dans une nature à la fois dynamique et devenue indissociable de notre culture comme de nos agissements ? Réguler trop systématiquement de tels mouvements, c’est vouloir contrer l’aspiration intrinsèque du vivant à s’ajuster aux changements, y compris opérés par l’homme. |

| Summary, etc. | The term “invasive species” refers to a complex and hybrid intellectual construction, nevertheless reducer, combining biological mechanisms, historical causal factors, and cultural representations of nature. Each invasive specie, as free and wild as disturbing and difficult to control, shakes up our vision of an implicit order of life. Our need to regulate the impetuous extension of a living specie, even when it is not detrimental to our well-being, seems irresistible. However, excluding radical situations, as in islands or in the presence of invasive predators, how should we assess whether an invasive species, either accompanying a change or being responsible for it, is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ inside of dynamic ecosystems that have become inseparable from our culture and our actions? Aiming to regulate such movements is equivalent to countering the inherent aspiration of living species to adjust to changes, including those operated by man. |
