520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. During 1802, Lord and Lady Elgin, together with the surgeon Richard Thompson, sailed towards Constantinople on board HMS Narcissus, a frigate under the command of Captain Donnelly. The passengers touched at Sunium, Zea, Porto Raphti, Delos and Rhenia, Paros and Samos. The frigate was ordered to Alexandria and Lord Elgin and his suite made their way to Constantinople overland. The article identifies, in the reserves of the British Mus., the sculptures brought on board during the journey they passed through the collection of Lord Spencer before finally ending up in the museum. Cross-checking allows D. W. to prove that 3 sculptures come from Alexandria. A circular altar, with 8 dancing women, must come from the Prytaneion on Delos. The altar belongs to a series well attested in the 2nd century B. C. The dedication mentions a certain Zopyros, known from other inscriptions, who would have offered it to Hestia and to the Demos.
