| Summary, etc. | Dans les années 2010, l’Ouganda fut identifié comme une plaque tournante dans le commerce illégal des produits animaux sauvages à destination de l’Asie. Pour lutter contre ce trafic, les autorités ougandaises prirent l’initiative, entre autres mesures, de créer un tribunal spécial – la « Wildlife Court » – à Kampala. Basé sur une enquête exploratoire conduite en 2023, cet article interroge les tenants et aboutissants de cette justice d’exception. Cette analyse suggère que ce tribunal dispense une justice de classe au service de la stratégie de « croissance verte » du régime de Y. Museveni. Le discours de la juge en charge du tribunal, amène cependant à penser plus largement ses activités comme une « politique de la vie » au sens de D. Fassin. En imposant aux personnes condamnées des peines et des amendes plus élevées, elle reconnaît à la vie des animaux sauvages protégés une valeur qu’elle n’avait pas dans le passé. |

| Summary, etc. | In the 2010s, Uganda was identified as a hub for the illegal wildlife trade to Asia. To combat this trade, Ugandan authorities took the initiative, among other measures, to create a special Wildlife Court in Kampala. Based on exploratory research in 2023, this article examines the ins and outs of this justice of exception. This analysis suggests that the court dispenses a class justice in the service of the green “growth strategy” of Y. Museveni’s regime. The discourse of the magistrate in charge of the court, however, prompts us to think more broadly of its activities as a “politics of life” as theorised by D. Fassin. By imposing higher penalties and fines on those convicted, the court assigns value to the lives of protected wild animals that they did not have in the past. |
