Perry Miller répondit par l’affirmative, dans sa présentation de la réception américaine de Victor Cousin. L’historiographie post-millerienne n’a pas été de cet avis et a donné, par voie de conséquence, une image déformée de la Nouvelle-Angleterre intellectuelle des années 1830. Il est temps de redonner à Cousin sa vraie place au centre des débats philosophiques de l’époque. |
