Summary, etc. Pour Derrida, le don véritable relève de « l’impossible ». Plus d’un siècle auparavant, Emerson affirme en revanche que « le seul véritable don est une portion de soi-même ». Cet article se propose de confronter ces conceptions apparemment contradictoires du don. Il s’agit de mettre en regard les textes de Derrida et ceux d’Emerson et de Thoreau pour montrer comment les transcendentalistes ont cherché à repenser le concept de don, mais aussi de propriété et d’authenticité.
