| Summary, etc. | RÉSUMÉ Dans la Naples des Lumières, la carrière administrative au sein du gouvernement bourbonien du poète et avocat Saverio Mattei témoigne de l’importance de la culture juridique et bureaucratique comme puissant facteur de notabilité intellectuelle et de reconnaissance sociale. Les scandales et les querelles dans lesquels Mattei est impliqué avec ses grands rivaux, Ferdinando Galiani et Luigi Serio, soulignent le dynamisme culturel de la capitale méridionale mais aussi la conflictualité inhérente à la structuration et à la hiérarchisation des milieux intellectuels. Cette concurrence est d’autant plus vive à Naples que le pouvoir monarchique n’est pas parvenu à agréger autour d’un projet commun ou d’une institution commune l’ensemble des letterati napoletani. Dans ce contexte, le positionnement ambigu des savants et des hommes de lettres par rapport au pouvoir politique laisse émerger un processus de professionnalisation du métier d’expert culturel à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, dont témoignent les essais musicologiques de Saverio Mattei et son projet de bibliothèque musicale. |

| Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT At Naples, in the Age of Enlightenment, the career of the poet and barrister Saverio Mattei inside the borbonian administration testifies to the signification of the legal and bureaucratic culture as important factor for intellectual notability and social admission. The scandals and the quarrels in which Saverio Mattei is implicated with his rivals, Ferdinando Galiani and Luigi Serio, emphasize the cultural dynamism of southern capital-city but also the conflictuality necessary for the graduation of the intellectual environment. This competition is all the more so brutal that the royal power failed to gather all the letterati napoletani in a collective plan or a collective institution. The ambiguous stand of the men of letters with the political power favours the professionalization process of cultural expertise. The essays of musical theory written by Saverio Mattei and his project of a musical library take part of this movement at the end of the XVIIIth century. |
