| Summary, etc. | RÉSUMÉ En France, le face-à-face entre l’histoire politique et l’histoire culturelle a été stimulant, débouchant sur une imprégnation des problématiques culturelles dans la recherche sur l’histoire politique contemporaine, avec l’émergence d’un champ qui pourrait être caractérisé comme une « histoire culturelle du politique ». Cet article se propose d’en faire un bref état des lieux, avant d’évaluer ce que ces nouvelles orientations ont apporté à nos connaissances : notamment, une meilleure compréhension du poids de la sensibilité, et du caractère complexe des identités collectives. L’histoire culturelle a également permis de rendre une densité diachronique à une histoire politique qui, en France, est trop souvent captive de l’événementialisme. |

| Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT In France the encounter between political history and cultural history has been mutually enriching, giving rise to an impregnation of cultural problematics in research on contemporary political history, with the emergence of a field which may be characterized as the « cultural history of the political ». This article will offer a brief overview of this field, before appraising its contributions to our scientific understanding of contemporary French history : in particular, a better appreciation of the role of sensibility, and of the complex character of collective identities. Cultural history has also helped to restore a diachronic density to a political history which in France is too often beholden to the study of the immediate past. |
