| Summary, etc. | RESUME Nombreux furent les contemporains qui ne tarirent pas d’éloges sur le savoir et la finesse d’esprit dont se distinguaient aussi bien le fougueux Charles d’Angoulême, benjamin des fils de François Ier, ou encore les deux Marguerite, filles cadettes de François Ier et d’Henri II, tandis que les portraits se faisaient beaucoup moins dithyrambiques en la matière pour la plupart des autres fils de France, manifestement plus enclins au maniement des armes qu’à celui des belles-lettres. Des portraits, donc, très contrastés de l’éducation délivrée souvent à une même fratrie, à une époque où l’explosion du genre des Miroirs du prince et des traités théoriques d’éducation a longtemps amené l’historien à conclure à un renouveau de l’instruction dispensée aux jeunes princes. Ce présent article se propose ainsi de réévaluer la pénétration de l’idéal humaniste diffusé par les traités d’éducation dans la formation réelle offerte aux enfants de François Ier et d’Henri II, à travers l’identification de leurs précepteurs, la reconstitution des supports pédagogiques employés et l’évaluation du contenu humaniste de cette formation. |

| Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT The portraits composed by contemporaries of Francis I and Henri II’s children are very contrasted regarding their knowledge and their wisdom : the image of both lettered Marguerite is the exact opposite of dauphins indisposed to study belles-lettres. While Mirrors for princes and theoretical treaties of education common during early 16th century leaded historians to conclude to a renewal of the education of princes, these various descriptions raise the question of the education given to a same sibling. This article seeks to evaluate the penetration of humanist ideal diffused by educational treaties in the genuine education proposed to royal children, through a new vision of the influence of theirs preceptors, a new study of teaching instruments and finally an estimation of humanist content of their education. |
