520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Corporation, Guilds and Exclusion Economy in Paris While the Old Regime period ignored it as a concept, corporatism has long been seen as programming the organisation of the whole urban society of that time. In fact, on account of guilds privileges and activities, it seems the word helps above all to understand how rights and goods, even more than men, were then conflictually incorporated. Competition between parisian guilds obsviously intended to drive apart merchants and craftmen, and to discriminate their abilities to sell, to control goods entering the city, to participate to powerfull bourgeois institutions. The way corps and communautés fought one another shows it quite well. From the 1740s and 1750s, the monarchy reacted by integrating then dissolving such an embbeded social power, with the idea of being solely able to give public security to trade exchange.
