| Summary, etc. | Dans Perlesvaus, roman en prose du XIIIe siècle, l’opposition entre l’Ancienne et la Nouvelle Loi est très présente. A partir de la représentation des adversaires de la Chrétienté, Juifs, Sarrasins, païens, confondus dans la même altérité diabolique, l’unité de Perlesvaus se construit autour de l’idée de conversion, sans qu’un arrière-plan idéologique ferme soit discernable (contrairement à ce que l’on a dans La Queste del Saint Graal avec laquelle Perlesvaus est fréquemment comparé). La notion de « conversion » serait dans ce roman plus de l’ordre de l’image obsessionnelle que de la réflexion spirituelle: en dépit de leur présence notable dans la deuxième partie du roman, les conversions restent limitées, ce que l’on pourrait rapprocher du fait que ce récit constitue une impasse pour le roman arthurien en prose, qui se développera moins à partir d’un Perlesvaus, resté, ce qui est étrange pour un texte aussi ancien, sans postérité, qu’à partir du Merlin en prose attribué à Robert de Boron |

| Summary, etc. | Chr. FERLAMPIN-ACHER, False Debt, Bad Faith, and Conversion in Perlesvaus. In Perlesvaus, a 13th century prose romance, the opposition between the Old and the New Dispensation is pervasive. Presenting as it does all the enemies of Christianity – whether Jews, Sarracens, or Pagans – as part of the same diabolic otherness, Perlesvaus bases its unity on the notion of conversion, without any definite ideological background being perceptible (contrary to what happens in the Queste del Saint Graal, a romance with which Perlesvaus is often compared). In this romance the notion of « conversion» would be more of an obsessional image than related to some spiritual consideration : indeed, striking though they may be, conversions in the second part of the romance are not numerous, which can be related to the idea that this romance is something of a deadend since Arthurian prose romances would not develop from Perlesvaus (which strangely enough for such an early work was not to have any posterity) but from the prose romance Merlin attributed to Robert of Boron. |
