| Summary, etc. | Dans L’Écriture et la différence, Jacques Derrida propose l’idée que la différance constitue l’essence de la vie, proposition importante, mais énigmatique. Des commentateurs ont tenté d’éclairer cette notion décisive à partir de la problématique de la constitution du temps et du débat phénoménologique sur la temporalisation de la conscience. Pour compléter cet éclaircissement de la notion de différance, il faut déborder la problématique temporelle pour se limiter à la composante spatiale de l’espacement, ce qui permet de caractériser plus clairement en quel sens la différance peut être dite « l’essence de la vie », c’est-à-dire la condition même de l’ouverture de la vie dans sa dimension phénoménologique. |

| Summary, etc. | In Writing and Difference, Jacques Derrida claims that différance constitutes the essence of life, an important although somewhat enigmatic claim. Several scholars have attempted to clarify this decisive concept, mainly by linking it to the problematic of time-constitution and by including it in the phenomenological debate about the temporalization of consciousness. To achieve the clarification of this concept, one has to show how the discussion could gain from moving away from the problematic of time to rather concentrate on the spatial component of spacing, which offers the possibility of characterizing more clearly in what sense différance can be called the “essence of life”, that is, the very condition of the opening of life in its phenomenological dimension. |
