| Summary, etc. | Les perspectives anglo-saxonnes sur la géographie culturelle changent rapidement. Une révolte contre la géographie de Sauer se produit aux alentours de 1980. Elle s’inspire de la critique littéraire et des Cultural Studies britanniques comme de l’anthropologie américaine. Ces remises en cause donnent une dimension plus critique à l’approche culturelle en géographie. L’attention accordée aux femmes, aux jeunes, aux minorités s’accroît. Les échelles se modifient : la place du local et du domestique s’affirme. La dimension historique est réintroduite par le courant postcolonial, en même temps que le postmodernisme insiste sur les faiblesses et contradictions inhérentes à l’idée même de science. La géographie se rapproche des humanités, puisqu’elle traite comme elles d’une matière première faite de mots, de discours et d’images. On en vient à parler du tournant culturel de la discipline. |

| Summary, etc. | Cultural geography in english-speaking countries Anglophone perspectives on cultural geography have evolved rapidly. A revolt against Sauer’s geography occurred around the 1980’s. It was fuelled by British literary criticism and “cultural studies” as well as by American anthropology. As a consequence, cultures are studied according to more critical perspectives. Growing attention is given to women, young people or minorities. The scales change : the significance of localities and domestic space is underscored. The historical dimension is reintroduced thanks to the postcolonial movement. Post-modernism insists on the weaknesses and contradictions inherent in the idea of science. Geography becomes closer to the humanities, since it covers, just as they do, a field made of words, narratives and images. Geography is experiencing a cultural turn. |
