| Summary, etc. | Marie-Madeleine est l’une des saintes les plus représentées dans les Pays-Bas du Nord des xvie et xviie siècles. Son iconographie proliférante ne s’explique pas seulement par la présence de catholiques dans les Provinces-Unies réformées. À travers l’exemple des quatre Marie-Madeleines pénitentes peintes par Gerrit Dou, cet article analyse la persistance des images de la sainte chez les protestants. L’existence d’un courant de piété réformé, la Nadere Reformatie – Réforme Continuée –, participe à l’étude contextuelle de ces images. Bien que peu convoqué par les historiens de l’art, ce courant théologique majeur dans les Provinces-Unies des années 1650 justifie le rapprochement entre catholicisme et calvinisme et permet d’expliciter à la fois la coexistence confessionnelle des Pays-Bas du Nord et la persistance des images magdaléniennes. |

| Summary, etc. | Mary Magdalene is one of the most frequently depicted saints in the United Provinces, during the 16th and 17th centuries. Focusing on four paintings by Gerrit Dou (four Mary Magdalenes depicted between 1660 ans 1665), this article explores the persistence of hagiographic imagery in a Protestant context. These works are examined in the light of the Nadere Reformatie, a movement of Reformed piety from the 1650s. Although rarely discussed by art historians, this theological current sheds light on confessional coexistence in the Dutch Republic and the survival of Catholic iconography in a Calvinist environment. |
