| Summary, etc. | RésuméActivité profane au premier regard, l’action sanitaire n’en constitue pas moins un maillon essentiel du dispositif apostolique mis en place par les missionnaires catholiques en Haute-Volta. L’offre thérapeutique confessionnelle s’intègre également au sein de la politique coloniale. Elle répond à certains besoins des populations tout en suscitant des conversions. Toutefois, s’il remporte d’importants succès, le prosélytisme médical des Pères Blancs et des Sœurs Blanches peine à se conformer à l’intégralité des attentes des Voltaïques. Imposant dans un premier temps une médecine d’importation, l’autorité ecclésiale doit finalement faire œuvre de pragmatisme pour répondre à la demande thérapeutique. C’est ainsi que le regard missionnaire vis-à-vis de la pharmacopée locale est amené à évoluer. Néanmoins, un certain conservatisme catholique limite les initiatives thérapeutiques, pourtant désirées par les populations. |

| Summary, etc. | At first glance, health action is a secular activity. Nonetheless, it is an essential contribution to the apostolic system established by catholic missionaries in Upper Volta. The confessional therapeutic offer also integrates into colonial policy. It meets certain needs of the people while giving rise to conversions. However, if the medical proselytizing of the White Fathers and White Sisters has so much success, it also struggles to comply with the full expectations of Upper Volta people. Imposing initially a medicine of importation, the ecclesial authority has finally become practical to meet the therapeutic demand. Thus the missionary looks towards the local pharmacopoeia will evolve. Nevertheless, a certain catholic conservatism limits the therapeutic initiatives, yet desired by the people. |
